First and foremost I have been a blackberry fan for a number of years. I am really enjoying my BB10 device, except for this one thing, whenever I try to take a picture, it doesn't doesn't seem to detect my face. I am curious as to how many people of African descent have the face detection feature working for them. I have attached one picture as proof. This post isn't meant to diss blackberry, but It doesn't help when I'm trying to show off the blackberry and it doesn't detect me. Hopefully someone at blackberry sees this and fixes it.

It works partly based on contrast. You are on a dark sofa, so the values of light are likely similar, causing it to miss. What happens if it takes a photo while you are standing against a light-colored wall?

, yes that seems to work with only me in the picture against a white door. I will try next time with other people in the picture. When i was outside with my family and tried it, it didn't work so hopefully they make some modifications so it at least works in the outdoors.

This is a problem with a lot of facial recognition software.
HP made laptops with face tracking and recognition and it had the exact same problem.

I'm African American and it works for me most the time, but if it is too dark it tends not to pick up my face. Try it in the sun.

It's a similar problem to the one cheap point and shoots have with low light photos: contrast. In this case, the software/camera combo isn't sensitive enough. It goes the opposite direction if it's cranked up too high: finding faces in wrinkled clothes and what not. There should be a happy medium somewhere, but facial recognition software is still fairly primitive, considering how advanced it is.

It barely works whenever I use it, and I'm Asian. I think the face detection could be improved.

Works fine for me. As long as I'm not on a dark background.

Then again people tend to say I'm invisible if I'm on a dark background

Yeah the zed is racist. Joke but yeah it only doesn't detect the face when the background color contrast is similar.

As one poster mentioned, contrast has a lot to do with this feature. So, a Caucasian standing (or sitting) in front of a wall of very similar color to their face would likely have the same problem.

It doesn't always pick up Caucasian faces either. Seems to be affected by shadows, bright background lighting, etc.

It only picks up my daughter's face about 2/3 of the time and she's white.

I'm sure it'll improve as time goes on.

I couldn't resist. But yea, the few times I've tried it never worked so I kind of gave up on the timeshift feature. The picture i posted was my BDay party and I was showing off the BB, only to have it fail on my face, lol. Anyways as always big up blackberry
