So without having another Z10 to compare the screen to I pulled out my 9860. Side by side the 9860 screen is definitely brighter and the whites more white which was enough reason for me to call up my carrier and request an exchange. The new phone will be here next week sometime. They are sending the new phone with a return envelope for my old phone so I can compare the two screens side by side.

I do notice that when you hold the Z10 up to a bright light source like others had suggested it gets almost as bright and white as my 9860. Almost isn't good enough for me, I waited too long for this phone to settle on one with a bunk LCD.

I also ran that LCD version app and these are the numbers it gave me: 46537-001-2012-11-14_00-13-01_1587

All I can decipher from that is the build date of 2012-11-14 ( November 14, 2012).

Another note is on my box is said: Made in MEXICO 6 for RIM CANADA with a phone build date of Jan 27, 2013

Common people, EVERYONE should be side-loading this little utility even if you don't think you have an issue (which you may). Getting these numbers will help sort this problem out and once identified is an easy way to weed out the bad ones.

Thank you... Everyone should be submitting their results from Shao's app. It's a brilliant idea. Then when others get the device, they'll instantly know if they have a bad one...

My carrier had at least 10 complaints when I spoke to their BB10 expert on the yellowish color of the whites and issues others are complaining about here so its not an isolated issue.

Hopefully BB or Kevin or someone that knows something more can chime in this thread to give it the bump it needs. PLEASE! and thanks

It seems like no one cares. In a month people will start ******** when they do realize that they have a bunk LCD saying why is no one doing anything about this / wheres all the information about this / how do we know if we have a bad screen. That's when we can point them to this thread, but it will be too late for them. Their exchange period would have expired. I may even have to rub it in that my screen works perfectly and say told you so. You can only help someone who wants to help themselves.

I dont think it is a matter of no one cares.... For all we know... The screen issues we see are the early batch of phones affected. It may have been corrected? Or in the process of being corrected?... The ultimate test will be the u.s release. I personally did not purchase a Z10 yet for the very reason that my luck with new releases have been poor. 9800 I replaced phone 4 times, 9810 3 times.... Quality of many products on opening releases is not the greatest.... And that is for anything you purchase...

I just recieved my replacement Z10. The screen is thankfully brand new and unblemisehd like my previous one. However, it is still dull unless it is under a direct beam of bright light. It is again a Mexico 6 model, but, interestingly, the speaker on this one doesn't crackle or become tinny like my last Z10, rather it is VERY loud and clear much like the Playbook I own. Clearly we're playing LUCKY DIP with the Z10, because Blackberry are not ensuring there's parity with production. They need to get this sorted. I will stick with this Z10 in the hope Blackberry release the update allowing me to turn off the sensor!

There is obviously a reason for this auto-dim feature, which would be Batterylife... When, or even IF? They allow such a switch, It will drain the batteries much quicker. I have a few friends and family who have purchased the z10... All with same complaints... Yellow tint on screen and dim... Also, not the greatest battery life as bb claim. I have tried them out, very fast no doubt (minus few bugs).. But the yellow dim screens are a little pathetic... My nice bright iphone 4s will stay with me for a while until bb product improves... The purpose of having a fast device to enjoy internet browsing, which bb is touting as the best there is...yet the colors are off and the screen is to dim, your experience is less then stellar..who cares if i can load a webpage 2 or 3 sec faster than the competition... The competition has a better more accurate display, the screen display on my 4s still looks better....

The display is vibrant in great lighting conditions, but sadly this isn't practical for everyday use, with fluctuation in lighting conditions when on the move.

Yes i have no issues except at night time i have no lights on in my place, i have to adjust brightness manually, but thats the same as my previous phones.

One thing is they need to have the option to turn off auto dim.

BlackBerry Z10 vs Samsung Galaxy S III

Reading comments here in this link depresses me, since the Z10 can have an amazing display, only the ambient sensor, or just a dud screen Z10 is killing the perception of the flagship Blackberry phone. Why can't I get one of the Z10's where people say it's so bright and crisp they have to turn the brightness down? What is going on, Blackberry?! Any updates regarding a response from Blackberry themselves regarding the Z10's all having different screens?

I think they are playing the if you ignore the issue it will go away and die game. If blackberry makes a statement regarding the screens it will go viral very quickly guaranteed. I think they are just ignoring the issue hoping that it goes away. No updates from crackberry or blackberry on this issue. Judging by the response to this thread no one on here seems to really care either.

I'm sure there are crisp white displays out there. just a matter of swapping out until you get one you are happy with. I'm gonna wait until production steps up a notch here in the UK and try again

I'm going to visit an O2 store and discuss a potential swap yet again as my replacement Z10 is now clicking and cracking a whole third of the way up the touch screen when pressed since it became warm with a charge. Upsetting. Mexico 6 model again with dim screen and warm colour tone.

Can't one just adjust the overall brightness setting to what you'd like to see? It's set somewhere near half way by default.

Interesting thread. I've been ALL OVER THIS.

We now have six Z10's here. My review unit (that was in the CrackBerry review), definitely had a not bright enough, slightly yellowish display which I mentioned in the review. As we got more Z10s during the Launch Events, we've been comparing them. Out of our six, two have very bright displays, two are a little darker but still ok (good color temperature), and too are definitely not as bright as the rest, and a little more yellow.

We put them side by side, tested in low light, bright light, etc., and I didn't see a difference based on that. So I don't think it's the dimmer as suggested by miko2097.

I've alerted BlackBerry to all our findings so far... I agree, if there is any issue, I really hope it's resolved ASAP. It could be that some of the units that were given out for the Launch event/reviews are older production models already, while the better ones are the new ones as they've ramped up for production and hopefully we'll be all good going forward. But definitely agree this needs to be fixed 100% and be in good shape for consumers asap.

Will keep everybody post if I find out more.
