Well I just came back from the BlackBerry Launch in Beirut. Saw the same video they showed at the main launch event and probably the other launch events as well. They showed off the BBM video chat live which was cool. The phone itself is amazing, although it would have been better if they had better speakers and a presentation with more pizzazz. I personally have the phone myself which just impresses me more and more each day.
They didn't mention whatsapp or Skype, or a time frame, but they did say that many more apps will be coming soon. They also had a local app developer who showed off the Al Jazeera app which he said Al Jazeera asked him to do(one in English and one in Arabic), as well as several other apps that are primarily for Middle East BlackBerry users.
A lot of people seemed genuinely interested in BlackBerry 10 and seemed excited in what the new BB10 has to offer, although a few people I talked to were unimpressed by the presentation, which is unfortunate.
They did hand out phones to some VIPs and handed out some BlackBerry Chocolates made by a well known company in Lebanon to others that were on another list, and let me tell you it is some good chocolate lol. (no, I didn't get the phone haha).

Oh God no. Not another "coming soon" saying. I'm starting to hate that sentence now!

That's too bad that BlackBerry had yet another uninspiring performance for their launch event in Beirut. I love my Z10, as a piece of hardware it is very good but, having spent a lot of my career in marketing and sales, I can assure you that a lacklustre presentation does affect public perception and, in turn, sales. I think it's time for Frank Boulben to hire someone that specialises in planning and executing world-class events moving forward.
