Exactly. We didn't buy an iPhone. At least the iPhone has a reason for the massive bezel.

The first time I saw the z10 I was surprised by the wasted space. Then after owning it I wished they had made the entire front glass. Oh well. The z30 has it on the bottom but it isn't as pronounced. And it isn't doubled top and bottom like 10

At first I thought the bezel was excessive, and then I got the phone and realized I had to hold it somehow. Also managed to buy a case that covered enough of the bottom of the phone to interfere with swiping.

Looks normal to me now.

When looking at Z10 in 2015 we see that there is a room to fit a bigger screen and bigger battery but keep in mind the phone was designed in 2012. In 3 years technology moved forward, many internal components are now smaller, lighter, more power efficient, with higher integration on a single chip, etc. Z10 was OK device for 2012 technology.

if you are playing a game on the z10 in landscape mode or holding the phone in landscape mode, the bezels are pretty sweet

It has the same bezels as phones from early 2012 where the design specs are from. Remember the Z10 was delayed because BB10 wasn't ready thus it made it to market a year late.

Yes, came out late, BlackBerry style. MSM8960 SoC was available in Q1 2012, Samsung Galaxy S3 was released May 2012, Z10 on January 2013. Z10 is a 2012 technology phone. Same goes with the "new" Classic.

The Bezels work well in landscape orientation, they are larger than modern phones but if you think they are an inch in height then you need to invest in a ruler.
