Hey folks how's it going. Just thought I'd share my mall experience last night. So as I was walking in the mall I bumped into a friend of mine in those kiosk stores located in the middle of the hallway. He shows me his iPhone that not only was cracked but concaved. Lol

He was pissed that rogers his current provider wasn't helping him out much on getting another one so he says I'm going to Bell. Now as he was looking at possibly switching to the samsung I pulled out my z10 and said why don't you switch to blackberry.

At this point this is when the sales guy litterly yells at the top of his voice no not a blackberry!!!

I was at first shocked and surprised to be honest with his reaction. I look up at him and say REALLY pretty loud as well. But this time the mall Santa didn't turn around and look over as he did last time!

The sales guy then just turned around after my vocal expression and pretended he got busy doing stuff. I laughed and told my buddy good luck with his decision and I walked away.

    Cheers.

Sigh. Some people should not be let out of the house. Very inappropriate for a sales guy.

What? Why did you walk away? Why didn't you lean in on the dude and ask him to backup his response with some facts or at the very least an explanation for his intrusivness into your conversion.

Just because they work at a carrier location, doesn't mean they have the correct product knowledge. If fact I avoid anyone that flat out starts or makes a comment in that manner.

Of course I could have started a debate with him. But in all honesty in those split seconds what popped in my head was more Bell Mobility marketing team or the Bell trainers for their employees.

Are they not informed enough or trained on the Blackberry products or perhaps are they allowed to encourage and sell the phone that each sales employee has in their own pockets??

If so Blackberry needs to change something fast if they are hoping to not only keep current loyal customers but potentially NEW ones. I mean this is the exact point where Blackberry should have some push on the new products, when the customer is debating what to purchase if they haven't made up their mind yet.

    Cheers

Yeah, the few Telus locations I go to seem to really stand behind BlackBerry and promote them front and center. My rep was very supportive of my girlfriend's decision to get a Q5

In all actuality it's not his job to stop people from slurring BlackBerry... ( as far as I know) ... that's a job that has been failing for quite some time now by BlackBerry marketing reps.

I have had one Telus rep try to slur BlackBerry. But I won't go into the details of that situation. It is a fact that the majority of mobile store representatives will sell what they personally use. This is because they know that they will be the first person a client comes back to if there is a problem with the phone (something jot working as expected). But there is no reason for them to put down a particular brand.

Perhaps now that Bell has the Z30 at $0 for a two year contract the store clerks don't make as high a commission on sales?

You really can't tell these days unless you specifically ask that question.

Furthermore, I can assure everyone on this post, this is not how reps are trained by Bell to respond or act with clients, I speak from former experience. As a matter of fact, Bell Corporate Store reps are often referred to as consultants because their job function is to do just that....consult. They certainly are not there to make random remarks without bases. They are there to engage clients that walk through that door and assess what has brought them in with a series of fact finding questions. Once they have a prudent amount of information, they can make suggestions and recommend products or services. Ultimately, if a customer is adamit on a product that is not recommended, you can offer a final in closing suggestion as to why you would not recommend it based on the info you've acquired but you still need to shut up and sell what is being asked of you at the end.

This is a case of bad judgment or even worse an untrained consultant giving opinion instead of consultation.

Was it a kiosk location or walk in store
I'm thinking it was a kiosk.
Plus not like the sales guys two cents would make a difference if it's a product I have every intention on purchasing because I know what I want.

It was a Bell mobility kiosk. And I fully understand if you 100% already know what you want walking in. But don't think that is always the case for everyone.

    I wouldn't get the z10 now. It's almost 1 year old. A dinosaur in today's world.

    Same goes with q10.

Friend should get z30 if he wants a BlackBerry

Then proceed to show him porn on your phone.

They'll sell whatever nets them the best commission. Inevitably that's going to be Apple or Samsung/high-end Android handsets. Blackberry needs to stop relying on carriers to push their phones.

So how should they sell their phones without carrier backlash?
