On my Z10 I had noticed my battery not lasting as long as usual, both my batteries last similar times, I looked in the device monitor and noticed bbm accounted for 60% of battery use, despite not being used. I carried out an update and re booted but bbm is still accounting for 19% of battery use and I haven't used it at all. Is there anything I can do?

    What OS are you using?

Have you installed any new apps? Check their permissions or delete them.

Check permissions and see if any apps have access to BBM.
Try installing a different BAR file of BBM.
Worst case do a wipe or reinstall the OS.

My BBM is only at .04%, so it isn't a normal big power user on a BB device.

I've always had high battery drain when using BBM. I have a Z10 currently on, radio 3140.

Same here. Have the same issue on my Q10. Did not even touched the phone till 1pm and it was already at 51% by then. It was off charger by 7.30am. My OS is No new apps. Is there anyway to stop BBM?

Sorry but no BBM is "part" of BB10.... it is the life force that brings all BlackBerry devices together.

Sure wish it could be deleted!!!!!!!

This is just insane. I never had a battery drained so fast! And I don't even use BBM. No channels subscribe and only 3 chat history. And I can't find what's BBM actually doing(in background) so I can shut it. Is this because of the new update (.3247)? Because the last time this happened was a day after I updated to 10.2.1.
Thanks to this crazy episode, my phone died on me while I was working out, relying on my phone as a timer.
Is there someway to reduce the battery usage by BBM?

I noticed that if I left bbm channels open and minimized app that there seemed to be a faster battery drain. But that was on 10.3

I can confirm same on my z30. 30-60% battery drain. But I can control it by not allowing any unread channels.

I confirm the same battery unusually drained the past few days all of the sudden, device monitor showed BBM was the culprit

The battery drain persisted despite ending all chats and unsubscribing from the channels.
I guess the real culprit is the BBM store. That was the only thing which had notification and I believe it is downloading all the sticker information and causing a huge battery drain. Blackberry needs to sort this because it is using my mobile data to the tune of 50MB each time.

So I had the same problem and I checked what was accessing blackberry messenger. It turns out a whole bunch of stuff was. So I shut it all down. I went from 32% back down to. 01%. So we will see if it holds.

I also got the problem. Restarted it and it was good again but started again after a week. Tried to contact bbm and ad usual told to do security wipe which I will never do so. It is due to latest OS in z10.
It came at the start 3-4 times but now it fixed. No problem in a month.
