I was given a Z10 (locked) and the owner had forgotten the password so after ten tries I wiped figuring to load the latest official software.
I ended up with the error, I read several threads on using Link to update.
After going through the motions, I get this " An updated BB Desktop software component must be installed before you can continue (click install)
I get " Downloading BB desktop Software Please wait.... it gets about halfway and after about 5 minutes I get "! there was an error updating the software"

Link version is 11.2.3.56
Tried it on my desktop and laptop and get the same results.

Any more ideas?

I am wondering if my dismally slow Internet connection could have anything to do with it.

My own Z10 is using 10.2.1.3062 which I assume is the latest official software.

You might want to try using an Autoloader found in the OS Leak Subforum. You can find versions that match your device model and the OS you want.

I could not get the phone to do anything using LINK. I managed to download an exe which did the trick finally
