I use my Z10 to tether Internet connection via USB to my PC for extended period of time. Around 5-6 hours a day, up to 15 hours a session on weekends. Right now my Z10 shuts off at around 35%, definitely has not reached 20% yet. It simply says "turning off device".

When I charge my device (to turn it on), it typically says the battery is sitting around 37%.

    Am I doing things wrong?

After it shuts off and refuses to boot. I have to charge it to turn it on so I did. Once the phone boots up, the battery reading is 35%

I tried a trick from BlackBerry support forums where I plug my charger with my device turned on then pull the battery and plug it in again. I have charged my battery to full and it hasn't gone down yet so IDK whether it works or not. Here's hoping that it does.

Btw, charged until it turns on. I stopped charging to see if it goes below 30% ish but nope. Now waiting to see if the trick works

Charge it till it is full. Charging only till it boots is not good. When it's full, take it off charge until it's empty again. Repeat at least three times.

Same thing happened to me a couple days ago. This has never happened before. I was using my phone and my battery got to about 15% and shut down. It wouldn't turn back on so I just popped in my spare battery and let the one that died at 15% charge. Weird problem, certainly shouldn't be having problems like these.

This battery drain advice is great for NiCad or Ni Mh batteries. NOT for Lithium Ion! Keep this up and you will definitely shorten the life of your batteries.

Agreed, but in this case his battery controller appears to not know where the limits are in the battery. So, while it is not ideal for the battery type, it's worth running some deep cycles so that the "digital memory" is reset. My post wasn't stating that li-ion have physical memory effects.

In addition to your comment that deep cycles are not ideal I have added a tech article with Li ion advice, below, to assist the OP.
