This will be a series of posts to show the effects of minimal usage on battery over long periods of time. Minimal usage will be just letting the phone sit somewhere and not interact with it.
The first test was over about 12 hours from 6 am until a little before 6pm. In that time the battery life dropped from 60% to 41%. Wifi at 5ghz, nfc and cellular including 4g were turned on.

What device are you using? That would probably be something worth mentioning...

Given this is in the z10 section.... I'm guessing he's using a z10.

This is all subjective without knowing what apps you have installed and running (is sayit running in the background? Are you streaming music? Battery Guru eats battery life as well while running. Just use the stock device analyzer built into the OS. It doesn't really eat battery at all).

How many BBM groups do you belong to and are they really active?

What email accounts are you using? How many of them? If you are using Gmail how many and what are their sync interval? If you have them set to 15 min then it is trying to sync the entire inbox every 15 min. Set it higher to preserve life.

I have found location services to be a battery drainer in previous builds. It's habit to leave it off now. If you want to use BlackBerry Protect device locator then you will obviously need it enabled.

And then signal strength has a TON to do with it. If you're in a weak signal area then the antenna has to run at full power. Obviously major battery drain. I used to get full day out of my Z10 no problem with medium usage. For heavy days I had to use the 2nd battery. But I ditched all my gmail accounts and went with outlook since it has active sync and doesn't have to poll for email.

No apps running but battery guru. 5 emails but three are barely used. (like less than 1 email a month) No BBM groups. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google Talk but I get a message on those maybe once in a blue moon. All settings for like email are the defaults out of the box. Got this phone the first day Verizon released it in March and it is an stl100-4

I forgot how to check exact signal strength, but it is 5 bars.

I am not making any statement as to the quality of battery life, just posting what I get.

Also, projections seem to indicate it would get about 2.5 days with wifi and 1.5 days without. I will examine sync times later but I would not be surprised to find out that it makes no difference since that is something originating from a different phone type.

What email provider are you using? Whether you get email or not does not matter. With gtalk, and gmail the phone has to poll for email and gtalk every so often. I think it's 15 minutes for emails unless you receive one. Then it will poll again after 5 minutes and keep doing 5 min intervals until it doesn't find new mail.

Gtalk has always been a huge battery drain on any BlackBerry I have owned. It's not push like on Google phones. gtalk is like BBM on android. But not on BlackBerry. I kill gtalk and battery life improves greatly.

As for the defaults. I think the default sync interval is every 30 minutes. If you turn them up to like every 1 or 2 hours (when I have gmail on my phone I do it every 24 hours as they aren't my primary mail) it might improve battery life even greater.

My battery life sucks even worse now after update. I have increased my mail sync to one hour and turned off media sharing and will monitor over next 24.

Okay, just cell, nfc and otherwise default. 97% to 76% from 9:30am until 8pm. I wonder how like a galaxy s4 or iPhone compares.
