I prefer proprietary systems to licensed systems like Android or windows.

However, I also like system to be standards compliant, like a Mac.

Andriod is so open, it's a mess.
IOS is so closed it is limiting.

BB10 is a great balance of the reliability of a proprietary system while not being needlessly closed.

Oddly, BB10 is a lit more Mac like than iOS is.

I feel the same way about BB10. It seems to have struck a very nice balance between being completely closed in (iOS) and wide open (android). I can get great use out of my phone without messing around in the system, but I'm not locked in to a certain usage pattern like an iPhone (for the most part).

My thoughts exactly. The reason I gave up my IPhone and never returned to Android.

in a way you're right as OSX allows UNIX apps to run while iOS is shut completely

Quit with the BB10 is dead posts. Even if they sell the company, BB10 will still be around. Too many captive customers that can't use anything else due to security.

BlackBerry's elliptical curve encryption is the crown jewel of the company. My biggest fear is that Microsoft will buy BlackBerry and meld WP with BlackBerry. I'm not feeling that!
