I will leave for vacation soon and there will only be a USB 3G stick.

Just putting the sim in phone is no option because of the settings that doesn't match up?!
Still weird but swat.

Is there a way to make a WiFi hotspot with my pc using the 3g stick?

Yes it's called Internet connection sharing, will work with your 3G stick or a cat 5 lan connection..
