My brother uses straight talk and tried to get it functioning on his Z10. The problem is we can't edit APNs even on the unlocked versions so there will be no data access. Only voice and messaging will work until they fix this bug.

I know that's the problem --- but is there no way around it??? I spoke to h2o people also but they said we don't have the configuration for the phone so nothing can be done

I'm using Red Pocket (AT&T mvno) in the States. The solution to get data services is to edit the APN field. This can not be done, via the regular 'Settings' page, but has to be done via the 'engineering screen'. I successfully did it. Link below:-

I am getting data. It's slow, but I am getting something. Edit the apn through the engineering screen. The poster above has the link.

Just curious, who is your provider? Oh, i just saw your old post and see you're on Straight Talk as well. They use T-mobile's network and that is very slow due to the frequency they use, try switching to an AT&T mvno, you'll get better coverage and speed. I had a Tmobile Sidekick way back and was very frustrated with the unreliable service.

Straight talk uses att I'm sure but will try it from the escreen n report back the findings
Btw T-Mobile works as for data but their signal dies off when I come home so that's no good

I'm certain Straight Talk is T-mobile. I've included a link below from their support site and it says at the very bottom that their SIM card will only 'work with a T-mobile compatible phone or unlocked GSM phone'. Link below

Straight Talk issues AT&T and T-Mobile compatible SIM cards, you have to specifically pick which one online or ask for one when you buy in person.

    I'm sure it's T-Mobile

Everything that I've read said that Straight talk no longer issues AT&T mvno SIMS, but use T-Mobile SIMS.

I have a AT&T mvno NET10 SIM and it works fine in my unlocked AT&T Z10. I have data access and did not have to edit the APN.
I tried the NET10 just to see if it would work. I'll probably just go on and transfer my number to NET10 and drop AZT&T. The NET10 is a lot
less expensive (at least for me).

If you live in an area where T-Mobile has "refarmed" their service onto the 1900 MHz band then you'd be able to get 3G data using a T-Mobile SIM, from Straight Talk, Simple Mobile, or directly from T-Mobile on one of their prepaid plans. Otherwise, NET10 is your best bet if you can live with the 1.5GB/month data cap. Check the link below for info on the refarming.

NET10 is giving me 4G speeds, same as my AT&T SIM when I'm out of the AT&T LTE area and in a 4G area (around my house for instance).

I'm using an unlocked European Z10 (STN100-2) with Red Pocket and after entering the appropriate apn value via the engineering screen the phone has no problem accessing data.
