So my girlfriend has a habit of breaking things, cell phones included. We are both in the middle of our contracts with Q10's. I'm thinking about giving her my Q10 and picking up an off contract Z10 with Verizon.

Other than the obvious, no physical keyboard, is there anything else to consider like battery life, etc. I've tried my friends Z10's and am certain I could get comfy with virtual keyboard quite quickly. Just concerned about battery and other potential issues.

Anybody who has both or extensively used both, your comments would be appreciated

I have both the Q and the Z, both running the official 10.1 ROM.

Battery life is far better with the Q and you can make a day quite easy without charging. The opposite is true for the Z. Battery life is great as long as you are on Wifi, but when on the road I have to carry a spare battery.

What is interesting: the Q feels "cooler", it seems that the Z is running some processes in the background (both phones have identical settings).

Would love to but the Z10 is $449 and the Z30 will be at least $200 more

Z10 slowly becoming out of date, BlackBerry future is the Z30. I don't want to say that Z10 becomes useless, but if I were you, I'd get Z30

I have the Z10 and love it. If you load any of the 10.2 OS's that are out there (I'm running 10.2.0.1767), you will get a full day out of your phone. Though it has a smaller battery than the Q10, the Newer OS optimizes the battery better. The Q with its little screen and bigger battery will give you better battery life.

Advantages of the Z over the Q: brighter screen, bigger screen, the touchscreen keyboard is amazing. A small tradeoff on battery life, but to each their own. Food luck in deciding.

Pick the Z10 is a whole better experience, with time you will drop your fisical keyboard separation anxiety. Battery improves with OS and development is going faster on the full touch screen devices.

Personally I have grown to love life without a qwerty. Go Z.

While I think a close call, I would default to longer battery life and the messaging and email beast that comes with a real keyboard. Interesting aside: if I had a Z I would surely use the predictive typing but on the Q I find it to be distracting. I use it only if I have to type one handed. That never happens.

While I think the Z is an able all touch device and rivals it's competition in most areas, the Q is clearly and unmistakably a BlackBerry.

Short of intentionally boycotting updates for the Z10, which would be the dumbest thing ever, the Z10 isn't out of date. Its hardware won't be a spring chicken forever but the Z10 has barely been out for a year in some places. This is in contrast to the vast amount of people still using (and even buying) their iPhone 4S which is well into its second or third year since release.

In my opinion the Z30 is an ugly slightly-more-powerful but much-more-expensive option. Guhh no thank you.

The 9900 was the last great BlackBerry full qwerty phone, Imo.

I want to like the q, but the lack of a track pad just doesn't make sense to me.

Battery on Z is terrible. Get a Z30 when it's out! I have all 3 now but the X stays in the drawer due to inferior battery

The Z is freaking sweet, BUT i do wish the battery was better. If you're switching from the Q be prepared for a substantial change in battery life.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Z10. Especially because you have already used the Q and know exactly how the operating system works. My only advise is that you need to purchase the battery charger that comes with the extra battery. I would go nuts if I couldn't swap batteries on the fly. Unfortunately, the Z10 battery is frustrating. (at least for me) Coming from a Q, you will notice the battery life first and foremost. Good luck with your choice.

Agree with others on battery. Speaker also isn't quite as good. BUT the screen is awesome (lcd) and the virtual keyboard is phenomenal. Can't go wrong either way.

question? how in the world you are in the middle of your contract with a couple Q10?
if i'm not wrong the Q10 went out the other day, and you said you have verizon, that makes your argument worst, remember the first ones on lunch the q10 was canada and the UK, US was way behind, so, something it's fishy with your "middle of contract" argument,

    just my 2 cents,

Jaja good assessment but maybe he refers to the middle being not the beginning nor the end, or maybe he is on one of the new upgrade every year contract that's being launched by all USA Carriers

Picked up my Z10 today am getting use to it quickly. I think I already type faster with the virtual keyboard. My only wish is that I had the "simple password" feature where you can enter a 4 digit numerical code instead instead of a whole pass phrase. I know it's in a leak, unfortunately I can't download leaks
