    You shouldn't have lost SMS function, it's only a shortcut. Just go to the Hub and select Text Messages to compose and send them.

    As others have said it is just a shortcut that is basically useless once you know how to use the Hub. Maybe seeing the text message icon with a notification helps in letting you know there's a new text... but yeah those shortcuts are pointless and just help those that are used to having an icon get used to the hub then it can be deleted if wanted.

    Just think it is counterproductive to even use the shortcut. In my opinion the number one selling point is the hub. Glad you got it back though; just pointing out that the hub really makes the icon useless as it takes you to the hub anyway. Why not just peak over right into the hub to view your SMS messages.
