If I format the card to FAT32 can I still have files on it that are larger than 4gb. I have a few movies that I want to put on my z10 however they are larger than 4gb

Nope, you cap at about 4096mb.

I read somewhere a while back that then RIM was dealing with Microsoft to license exFAT for BB10, which would solve the issue.

You got it wrong. The Z10 can take memory cards up to 64GB of storage. Most sites didn't have the full specs when they posted so they assumed the Z10 would only handle the same as previous devices. The OP's question though, is about the size of a single file and not the SD card's maximum storage.

On FAT32 file system you cannot transfer files bigger than 4096 MB as previously stated. For a movie bigger than 4096 MB I would advise making a part I And part II if possible

My reply was not meant as a personal insult. Read again, you'll see I answered his question and clarified you question.

    Sorry about the confusion.

Then again, FAT32 has nothing to to with the max capacity of the SD card. It is a file system format.
