You have to Sideload Snap to gain access to the Google Play Store, we can't "use" the Play Store itself. Hopefully BlackBerry eventually allows Google Play Service to work on the Android Runtime, but that's another conversation.

Anywhos, you'll need to use the Chrome browser extension, Sachesi, or any other dev tools to Sideload Snap onto your device. There are several threads outlining the process in the BB10 Android Sideloading sub-forum.

Why on earth would anyone use 1mobile rather than download directly from googleplay?
Because you don't have to sideload it.

This brings me around to my love/hate relationship with BlackBerry.

I've spent 30 minutes trying to connect my mac to side load the Snap file. No luck yet. Then, I figure it is because I haven't installed Link yet. I do that and try and drag and drop some music from my Mac to my Z10- I get as far as "preparing to sync". Well. That works as well as my kids when they are "preparing to do their homework " in other words, it takes a long time and nothing happens in the end.

I think my frustrations with 10 almost always occur when I try and make it be more than it is. I don't need it to hold music and I don't really need it to have a million apps. I have a 5S for that. I just need it because I love the Hub, keyboard and the elegant design.

Use Ghost Commander and turn off notifications for 1Mobile. Problem solved. I've been using 1Mobile for months and never had an issue.

Many apps offered on Google play are reliant on Google Play Services, while the same app from 1Mobile is not.

It eliminates the need to reconfigure the app so that it will run on a blackberry, it's not for the weak at heart. And so these other sites do it for you and all ya do is hit download. Some apps work some don't. From what I understand the apps that use flash have no problem when it is reconfigured.

Could you step through the various Ghost Commander steps to finally find where to turn off the Notifications. Thanks.

Well, the app I just downloaded through 1Mobile still wanted Google Play services and imploded. So I guess some things still need Google stuff.

I can't take the daily "update" spam notifications from 1Mobile. I deleted it. Snap and Amazon Appstore are fine.

Sure. Open Ghost Commander, Go to "Applications " choose 1Mobile and then choose "manage". Turn off notifications there. You can do the same for any Android apps this way.

The last app I ever sideloaded was sideswype. I use that to keep Snap up to date.

But I'm also a developer so it's a bit easier to navigate this stuff.

But essentially 1mobile you can install as-is, but it brings 'dirty' apps. As in old versions, pirated versions. Or malware versions of apps in my opinion.

Where as snap needs to be sideloaded somehow. But can then be used to access true Google play - which gives you a much bigger app selection and more safety. Plus snap looks and feels like cascades - runs beautifully.

1 Mobile will push updates faster. The latest Instagram update came out almost 2 days earlier than on Snap.
