Look... if you have Verizon and a BB, do yourself a favor and just get a small keychain GPS puck and be done with it. Its much cheaper than perpetually paying $10 a month.

Looks like that is the only solution. Just tried it and it does not work.

I like how some people keep saying that if we want to use this kind of feature, to buy a GPS puck and shut up about it. However, I don't want to pay $100 for a GPS receiver that's already in my device to pay an additional $10 a month to Telenav, because that's what I miss on my T-Mobile device.

In addition, the last thing I want is another thing to have to charge, between 2 phones, a Jawbone bluetooth and a Motorola Bluetooth FM transmitter, I have enough things to plug in.

A GPS puck is not a solution for everyone, I'm glad it works for you.

Cool. Switch back to T-Mo and you're all good.

I think I'm gonna pick up a puck and if I can get other apps to work as expected, I'll cancel my VZNav....I like it...but if BB Maps or Google Maps will work with a puck, it's a no brainer.

Its a no brainer for me, too. But it obviously doesn't work for everyone.

The free 3rd party apps work well with my GPS puck(I paid $50.00 for a Holux GPSlim 240 one year ago so I am +$50 vs VZNav). It is an easy solution to a situation that is not going to change- unfair as it may be.

In December Verizon is going to "open up" their network, this is their first step to allowing open source devices. This should allow all CDMA phones to work on it and there is a good chance we will see Verizon stop locking down their phones!

The reason I ask is I think they're dragging their feet on it. It seems like Google was suing them recently over it. I can't remember exactly, so I'm trying to get some concrete stuff.

Just googe verizon open network/source and you will find a bunch of articles, although they are all about a year old. They have already opened up to other devices to use their network (ex. a machine to send an SMS when a storage tank runs low, for commercial use). They all seem to call for December 08. So we will see how truthful they are.

Bad news. Boy Genius Report has an article on the new Windows Mobile 6.1 update on VZW - and they are keeping GPS locked down.

This doesn't prove whether they will or will not unlock it, but it is easy to infer that they will not.
