Wrong. Verizon does not use SIM cards. Don't know who told you THAT fable. And you haven't unlocked an 8830 to use on any US network, either. You may have had one FLASHED, which is entirely different than unlocking.
You need to check your facts before making uninformed statements.

The 8830 does uses a SIM card, just as every Verizon World Phone that uses both CDMA & GSM.

I moved my SIM card from my 8830 to my 9530 to my 9630 & to my current 9550, where it still is.

No. Telus has a database of ESNs, and they will not activate any CDMA device that lacks their own branding.

Unlocking will not make a difference. If the device is unlocked you can use it on a GSM carrier outside of North America only. The 8830 does not support North American GSM frequencies.

Unfortunately no, once unlocked it will only work overseas on the GSM side because the phone is not compatible with North American frequencies.

Would be great if all CDMA carriers had an open ESN policy

Hi guys, i hope some one can help me.
Does anyone know how to unlock this from a verion network? I tried to enter the MEPD menu, but after some tries it wont even show anymore?? is there another menu where i can access it. better yet, has anyone come across some software to maybe unlock the SIM? Any feed back would be great! ")

Purchasing a code a entering a contest for one will yield the result you are after.

I was looking at cell phones online and saw where a blackberry 8830 thru verizon was unlocked. I don't really know what unlocked phones are as I am not very electronics smart. Is this phone too good to be true? Can you get the phone and use it with another company (tracfone, att, straighttalk, boost, etc)? Or do you have to keep it with verizon? Will it work in the United states? I saw something about the unlocked phones being for Europe only. I love my current provider but love the blackberry too. I want to upgrade but I don't want to get stuck with verizon as we have had a ton of problems with them before.

The 8830 is usually sold Locked but even if you were able to find one unlocked it won't work in North America. The GSM bands of the phone only work overseas. You can get the 9630 or 9650 that will work on 2G in the US with ATT and T-Mobile.

If you plan on using Boost, you need to get the phone from them.

I have a 3 year old Sprint 8830 World and it is Sprint. It is not locked because it has a sim card and I can do MEPD and it works.
