    it says:
    sim disabled
    network active
    network subset disabled
    service provider disabled
    corporate diabled

    so is it unlocked?
As mentioned above your phone is locked. Once unlocked your Network will say Disabled.

Does anyone make a phone that will work on CDMA as well as GSM locally. I travel all the time and have trouble with coverage in fringe areas. A phone that would serve both platforms would be a big boon to me, as well as others in the same boat, I'm sure.

"dual cdma/cdma" and "there only limited carrier selection"?? I don't think you actually know what you're talking about.

The Bold 9650, Tour 9630, Storm 9550 and Storm 9530 will work on ANY GSM operator.

I think you should go through all 1358 posts of mine and see how many are spam. I am willing to bet 98% of your 330 are. (If I had the time to care, I would go through them to prove a point.) It's blatantly obvious that you created your account on this forum to spam. Username, signature, reply to any thread in reference to unlocking- I mean, we're not stupid. I have a simple link in my signature to support a great company- not to spam every post I see an opportunity to do so on.

you cannot unlock a phone from Verizon or Sprint's networks. These operate on CDMA technology which does not rely on sim cards and thus the hardware itself is directly locked to the carrier. Nor, even if it was possible to free the carrier lock, would there be a place to put a sim card.
this is not entirely correct, verizon uses sim cards and the blackberry 8830 has and uses a sim card...i have also unlocked other phones from both of these networks in the past and brought the unlocked phone to a different provider and had them re-programmed for that carrier.

Wrong. Verizon does not use SIM cards. Don't know who told you THAT fable. And you haven't unlocked an 8830 to use on any US network, either. You may have had one FLASHED, which is entirely different than unlocking.

As mentioned above, the 8830 even once unlocked will not work in North America on GSM because of frequencies incompatibility. It will work overseas though.

For someone not looking to argue you sure are belligerent!

I just pulled a verizon sim card out of a Verizon 8830 world phone

Glad to know that fables look and feel just like any other sim card.

Still, 4 months later, Verizon does not use SIM cards.
