Why do people not believe your 8830WE can be unlocked and used with any GSM network. We unlock them all the time.
this is cdma. Obviously gsm unlock is very easy. Using a VZW (CDMA) phone on US Cellular (CDMA) network, when the phone came from VZW is branded VZW, thats not easy to believe, but hey my mom told me you can use any phone on any network any where in the world, thats what the at&t rep told her, i laughed my *** off when i heard him say it to her, then i left the store and told her no AT&T, cuz they r gay.

Unless their gsm is the same frequency as is used in Europe (some other places), it will not work. If it is the correct frequency, then you need a SIM card in the slot (it is almost hidden right by the battery.) It is NOT the SD card which is a flip-type hinged door.

Then, if it is NOT unlocked yet, you would have to call Verizon to get it unlocked or possibly pay a 3rd party to provide the unlock codes.

    Good luck

8830WE only have 2 GSM bands. The phone specs show only for Europe and Asia
    Europe/Asia Pacific: 1800MHz GSM/GPRS networks
    Europe/Asia Pacific: 900MHz GSM/GPRS networks

Check your carrier what frequency they use.

I'm pretty sure I offered to help you already...I hope this post isn't an expectation for free services. You don't post threads asking (and truly expecting) Verizon to give you free service or RIM to give you a free phone, do you?

Today has been an absolutely awful day thanks to my unsuccessful attempts to get this stupid Verizon 8830 unlocked. I purchased it on ebay nearly a year ago and activated it on USCellular, and everything works fine, but I'm going over to Europe at the beginning of next year so I slapped in my europe-wide pre-paid SIM thing I had purchased some time ago thinking my "World Edition" CDMA/GSM phone would happily accept it.. Of course not, it's a Verizon phone.

After a VZW store manager acting like I was trying to shoplift from their store, I went to a different VZW store and they directed me to their phone tech support where the woman told me I was breaking the law and that using a phone on another carrier was "like taking the software out of the phone and giving it away to another cell phone provider", which of course made no technical sense whatsoever..

USCellular was no help either, they sold the same model phone at one point in time, but theirs was unlocked, they also didn't understand how I was able to activate a Verizon phone on their network and that it was "illegal".

Anyway, I'm frustrated and angry, it's such a stupid trivial thing and yet they lie to customers and act like they know what they're talking about.

I guess my only option is to pay for some website to do it? Or are there key calculators out there?

    IMEI: 355771.01.703261.0

Any assistance would be very much appreciated, it'll save me from hauling two phones around with me on my trip.

Jeez people, just PAY for it. It's not ILLEGAL, so whoever told you that should go play in traffic.

BlackBerry Unlock Code usually only takes about 5 minutes to do it.

Yes, noob, "just pay for it". What in the world makes everyone think they're owed something for free? Another fine example of what's wrong with America's economy- everyone wants a handout instead of working for it.

If you can't afford the $5-$20 to unlock your phone, you don't deserve to have it unlocked. Unlocking the Verizon 8830 (title of the thread) is for WORLD TRAVELERS. If you're traveling the World, you should be able to come up with $20.

Indeed, pay extra to a corporation remove the tight leash placed on an item I purchased with my own money is somehow acceptable because I'm fiscally responsible and therefore have funds to occasionally travel. Another fine example of what's wrong with America's blindly accepted unrestrained corporatism which we're taught to refer to as "capitalism". By no means do I expect something for free, but I'm reluctant to pay monies to an individual merely because they have advantageous business connections. Unfortunately, due to the way Verizon (and many other mobile providers in the US) conduct business, they really leave no other option. I understand the stance of "just pay for it", especially if you're on the receiving end.

That being said, ngreen was of great assistance, prompt, courteous, and didn't even call me any names. I can now use this foreign SIM in my old deteriorating 8830 without being subjected to listening to Verizon employees accost me as though I had killed and eaten their grandparents.

    Thanks again ngreen!

Extremely frustrated in my attempt to get my Verizon Blackberry 8830 unlocked. I would gladly pay to have it unlock and have the option to lock my blackberry ONLY when I want it locked.

Getting the run around. Does anyone know the CORRECT service number to dial to get TECH HELP.

Here's VZW's policy for Unlocking phones. You must be a customer for at least 6 months. You must have phone active in your current line of service. You can only unlock one phone every 6 months. You can call 1*800*922*0204 and ask for the global support team and if you fall in the above mentioned criteria, they will GLADLY unlock your phone for you. You cannot go into a store to unlock it, they will redirect you to this number or you might get a newbie and he/she might give you wrong information. Some store managers do not know this policy because it's not something they do or are trained to do. No one in their store is. The only ones that can unlock phones is their Global support team. They will unlock any VZW Global phone, i.e. Tour, Storm, Ozone, Saga, etc. That's their policy. They unlocked my Storm last year and yesterday they unlocked my Tour. So there you have it.
