I've read that you must unlock the pin on your BB to transfer the phone to another person. My question is do I still have to unlock to transfer to another line on my family plan? Or will simply changing the ESN allow the phone to fully function?

The pin has nothing to do with an ESN/MEID change. The pin is just an identifier for your phone no the network.

You DO however need to log into BIS (blackberry.com/go/vzw or via the device) and upgrade the pin to the new device IF you switch handsets around. Just changing the phone to another number on the line and keeping BIS the same requires no extra work. Just the ESN change. BIS keeps track of things via pin not phone number.

Ok, thank you for the response. I wasn't sure what was all involved since I will be keeping the phone, just on a different line.

Then all you need to do is the ESN change and a *228 [SEND] opt 1. It would not hurt to resend service books too but I don't think it is really required.

How do I unlock the pin? I have a used BB and can't set up email because it says the PIN already has an account! Please help!

You don't unlock the PIN. It is attached to your device.

    Options>Status

    PIN would be listed there.

You can think of "PIN Lock" as being "Data Lock" as opposed to "Phone Lock".

    > Data Lock: the data side of the blackberry is locked to a specific provider.

    > Phone Lock: the voice & sms side of the blackberry (i.e. GSM side) is locked to a specific provider.

You can have a blackberry where voice & sms work perfectly well, but activating a BB plan fails.

You must call the carrier to release the PIN from the previous owner.
