Why would I do this if I can get a free unlock code from TMO?

Well most carriers dont give away the Codes.. At&t and Tmobile are the only ones willing to give them up

Exactly. If your carrier won't do it for you, for $20-$30 you can get your device unlocked and it never has leave your hands.

What exactly are you doing to the device? The only way to unlock a BB is to enter a code.

Call them up and tell them you are travelling internationally and would like to use prepaid sim cards while you are abroad.

The OP has been around long enough to amass a total of 16 posts and wants us to send him our Blackberrys Gotta admire the brazen attempt to score a free Blackberry, but, um.......no.

Question: Can someone using T-Mobile (me) call up T-Mobile and get an unlock code from them, or would I have to call up AT&T from my friend's phone (he has AT&T) and get the code that way? I'm guessing it's the latter, but I'd just like to make sure.

That was unclear: The phone I have is locked under AT&T.

Call ATT international customer service. Tell them you will be travelling outside the US and need to have your phone unlocked so you can use a prepaid sim card. They will give you the code and instructions free of charge

The unlock code is specific to the phone. There's an international phone number to call att and get the code.(If that's the original service provider to the phone) What's that number again john clark?

Lol! I don't have the number. TMobile will only unlock TMobile phones. AT&T will only unlock AT&T phones. If you're not a customer of the carrier that's branded on the phone, they won't unlock it for you. You'd have to then go to a 3rd party for unlocking.

Ok - fairly new on here - have been using BB for about a year now...I have 2 one on AT&T one on T-Mobile. AT&T is personal T-Mobile is work - i'm tired of carrying 2 devices and work won't allow me to put a voice plan on the BB and they won't give me access to the BES on my personal.

So what i want to do - and please tell me if this will work is unlock my T-mobile device and put the sim card from my AT&T device in it. Will i still have access to my company's BES?

    Any and all help appreciated.

    Thanks!
