I see the post about unlocking the curve. What is the purpose, what does it do. Sorry for the noob question, does anyone have the answer?

Unlocking a phone is really a way of being able to use the phone on another carrier other than the one that it was originally purchased from.

It comes in handy for people traveling overseas as prepaid Sim Cards are available there and it is less expensive to use those instead of a data plan in the States.

Some people will buy a used phone from eBay, Craig's List or even get one from a friend or family member that may be from another carrier than the one they use. In order to use it on their carrier, it must be unlocked from the original carrier if it is different.

However it should be noted that there are some phones that even if unlocked will not work with other carriers. It depends on what network type they use.

    i hope that helps,

Your 8330 is CDMA, unlocking applies to GSM phones that use sim cards.
