Since there's free unlocking codes being given away I figured this would be a pertinent question:

Does unlocking "break" any features on your phone specific to your carrier?

And would the unlocking still be valid if you upgraded your OS?

    Thanks

Once you unlock your phone, it's unlocked. It doesn't break anything it just allows the phone to be used with other carriers, IE: AT&T phone with a T-Mobile SIM card.

Sorry for the newb question, but what're the advantages besides being able to use other carriers?

Also, will it null any insurance or warranties on the phone?

Other than that, if you ever decide to sell your phone it will net you more money and opportunities to sell it to more people on different carriers.

That's all unlocking does. allows you to use other carriers.
