I feel silly now, I wrote a letter trying to ask what you did so easily. If I receive any good info, I will pass it on.

Any GSM carrier will work, provided you have their SIM in your phone, or are roaming on their network (won't happen if you have an AT&T SIM and don't do a manual network search.)

What data speeds you get is a separate issue. With T-Mobile (most areas as of today), Cincinnati Bell, and other band IV (1700 MHz) carriers, you will get at best 2G. With other band II/V (1900, 850 MHz) carriers, you will get 3G and better.

If it's a new Blackberry model - AT&T device will be good for most of the carriers in the world.. but note those that use the 1700/2100 bands.

It depends on the BlackBerry model. Some aren't 3G compatible (like the 8520) and won't work on networks like Three.

I'd use gsmarena.com to check out the phones compatibility then make sure the network you want to use provide a signal you can use.

ATT and TMobile use different 3G frequencies I believe. EDGE may be the best you can do.

Any GSM provider will work. To take advantage of the 3G/4G network, ensure your service plan supports it. If you're having trouble obtaining a 3G/4G network contact your service provider.

Any GSM carrier including T-mobile, but you won't get 3G or 4G since they run on different frequencies.

He shouldn't have a problem connecting with 3G on any network that supports it. Either the phone is compatible or not.
