Ok, in news of Rogers asking $999 canadian for their phone, i'm preparing myself to buy a 9700 from the states unlocked....

Assuming rogers will allow UMA on their 9700, will i have any issues with an unlocked one??

I have an 8900 with UMA service from rogers.

Would it be as easy as swapping sims cards?
Would i even have to call rogers?
    Would 3G work right away?

Excuse me for being a noob...

you should read some of the posts after that post on the forums here about the 1000$ asking price....its like when other companies put a price of 10grand for a laptop like the guy said with windows 7 already on it... but when the laptop is released it goes to the normal price like 1200$ or sometihng...the phone will be less than that cuz they'll never sell any with the asking price of 1000$

Was it 999.99? becasue that sounds like the kind of price they would put as a holder in the system untill the real one comes out.

    $1000 for a phone? Really?!

That doesn't seem right, especially if the 3-yr contract price is $299.

I hope you guys are right. I'd rather have a phone that says the right provider on the back of it...

wow, thats different. i hate phones that say a provider name. that makes me feel like its their phone and they own it, im just borrowing it.

if i can, id scratch it off, and get my own name on it, or no name, lol.

I spoke with a guy in sales yesterday at Rogers, and he said the phone will be sold without a contract for $549 - $699.

So does anyone know if in fact the phone can be unlocked and used on Rogers 3G on a BES account or too early?

I've heard from a sales guy at Rogers that they are targeting mid Nov as a release date.

    FWIW.

yea i'd be ok with an unbranded one. I just wouldn't want a T-mobil logo on mine if I was on rogers.

Not a chance. The Bold is still 650, the Onyx will be a lot more. Rogers reps are clueless, they think it will be that much but there wrong.

Here in Vancouver I can buy a brand new Bold for $549 without a contract. It was the sales dept I was talking to, not a CSR. The guy said that was the ball park figure for the price. He said that they were told that the price for the phone won't exceed $700.

I spoke with a representative a few days ago as well. He said that the 3 year contract price shouldn't be the same as the bold was ($399) to start.

As for the unlocking question, we have already unlocked a preproduction Rogers 9700. So no, it's not too late to wonder.
