So is unlocking a BB the same as Jailbreaking one like Jailbreaking an iPhone?

No. Unlocking a Blackberry allows you to use it with other providers. Plus Blackberry Unlocking is permanent, so even if you upgrade/downgrade the OS, you never need to unlock it again.

Its also done by code..wheras jailbreaking is done by software. The difference is that by code you can't harm the software or void the warranty....jailbreaking on the other hand as everyone knows can leave you with a $500 brick

Unfortunately the 8530 is a CDMA phone which means that it can't be unlocked for use on a GSM network

Sorry, but this is probably one of the few times you wished you had an iPhone that could be jailbroken :S

Last time I checked, Verizon was still CDMA... But do they use an unlock code?

Sorry I probably should have worded that better. You can't unlock a CDMA only phone to be used on another network using a code.

For example, you can flash certain CDMA Blackberry's to be used with other CDMA carriers (ie. Verizon can be flashed to work with MetroPCS). But you can't unlock it and use it interchangeably like we would use a GSM phone by just switching sim cards out of it.

    Hope that clears it up

Do you have an account with them?

Most of us unlockers here can email you the unlock code within a couple of minutes.

That's a Negative As carrierunlock mentioned, you can use any SIM card to unlock your Blackberry, Active or Inactive doesn't make a difference. You just need to have the correct unlock code.

We can help you unlock it. Haven't heard Vodafone personally give out a free codes, but carriers that do usually require that you be a customer of theirs first. Call them and find out, worst they can do is say no.
