I just got the unlock code from AT&T for my Bold, and followed the simple instructions in the email the AT&T BB Specialist sent me. But, now...where can I go to on my Bold that tells me the device is indeed unlocked?

When I go to settings > options > SIM card...it says "SIM Card: Security Disabled" at the top of the screen. Is that the evidence that the unlocking was a success?

Mine says that now and its not unlocked. So that can't be the confirmation. Not sure how u confirm it.

So I get a text from AT&T saying that I need to call for instructions on how to unlock my phone. She says that I have to sign up with an international plan in order to get the unlock code. Is this true?
What exactly do u have to say to the customer service rep because every one that I've talked to has no clue

I had my friend call AT&T for my unlock code because he called and got his in like 5 mins.. When he did mine it took over an hour!! lol but all he said was he signed up for ATT because of the Global coverage but was headed to Germany and wanted to use a tmo prepaid sim because thier rates are cheaper.. they then gave em the code and unlocked it for free, but when he did mine he said u gotta be a customer for atleast 90 days or some nonsense.. but i dont buy that at all.

Dude you can call yourself, I actually had to call twice the first time they gave me an excuse saying I had to be a customer for atleast a year and I said I was just traveling over seas for 2 months, so I called again right away and got someone else told tem I was traveling for 3 months over seas and I needed a unlock code, she just asked for my imei number and got it like that... Doesn't hurt to call twice...

OK Everyone, I called AT&T last week and they told me they would have to put a request ticket and they would get back to me with the information. Three days later my request was denied. I called again yesterday, the super nice CS lady looked up my unlock code and gave it ti me over the phone and the whole thing took less than 5 minutes. Now I have a brand new BOLD that is unlocked and I can use it where ever I go. Thanks again for this great forum.

That's great news! I finally got mine unlocked after the third customer service rep and that was even when they sent a text telling me to call them for instructions how to unlock it. (I figured the text would contain the code, but it didn't) First lady was clueless and had no idea what I was talking about. Second one transferred me to the international propriety department and that customer service rep tried to bs me about needing to sign up for an international plan before they could give me the code. The third time I called back I finally got an American lady who knew what I was talking about and gladly gave me the subsidy code.

what is advantage of unlocking a phone?
Unlocking your device allows you the ability to use it on other carriers which may offer better coverage or pricing.

Another advantage is purchasing a prepaid SIM card if you go on vacation. Rather than sign up for international calling or pay high roaming fees, an unlocked device will allow you to install a prepaid SIM card in your vacation destination for a nominal fee.

One more advantage I can think of is improved resale value of your device. An unlocked device is more appealing to potential buyers as it is more versatile working on numerous GSM based networks.

I received the UL code simply by asking. (I am a long time user of ATT). However the instructions given by ATT to unlock were guaranteed to not unlock the Bold. From reading the Forum and watching a YouTube video, I was able to piece together the correct steps. Even the Video for a Rogers Bold was not 100% correct for the ATT Bold. Here it is:

Unlock Blackberry Bold 9000 Cell Phone

    1. Make sure ATT SIM card is in the phone. I M P O R T A N T
    2. Turn off Radio and WiFi connections on BB I M P O R T A N T
    3. Go to Options click on Advanced Options
    4. Scroll to ‘SIM CARD’. Press scroll button
    5. Type “MEPD” note: this will not display on screen.
    6. Type MEP … then (Alt + E to get 2). Not simultaneously! Pop up block to enter code appears.
    7. Now Enter unlock Code: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    8. Press scroll button to enter command. "Code Accepted" should appear in Block.
    9. Turn off. Remove battery 10 Seconds. Turn back on
    10. Go to Sim Card via Advance Options again, and press scroll button and type MEPD to review. All network specific should show disabled. You are now "unlocked".

I saw that Bell now carries the bold 9000, does that mean that a Bold 9000 could be unlock to work on telus network?

how could this have been answered in this threat and a million time already.
Last post is dated in February Bell and Telus just went live with their new HSPA network 2 weeks ago. It changes everything Bold is now compatible with their network. I know it wasn't possible before the HSPA network, and I know it's now possible with Bell but what about Telus?

YES you can run a bold 9000 on telus. I am doing it right now! Using an unlocked robbers phone. Bought it off of craigslist and unlocked it myself.

Forgot to add its been my phone since i got it - so not stolen/blacklisted etc

Is your IMEI has 03 for digit 7 and 8? if so your phone is locked to new security and you need new security code to unlock it.

If you have an account with the provider they should give you the code for free. If they don't then you can buy the code from any of us unlockers here or you can try to win the code on the forums
