I have heard that UniquePhones is pretty good and fast for BlackBerry unlock codes, although I have never used them personally.

I have heard of carriers unlocking phones. Why do they do this?

It's supposed to be for international traveling, but there are a lot who just want to use the phone on a different carrier (but you don't tell your carrier this).

It doesn't need to be unlocked. CDMA phones aren't locked to networks like GSM phones are. It's just a matter of MetroPCS (in this case) allowing you to activate a Sprint Curve on their network (and possibly flashing it).
