I have done some reading up and just want to confirm 100% that if I pick up a local SIM card in Jamaica that I won't have access to BlackBerry Messenger or the BIS in general.

It's logical that my data plan is tied to my local carrier (Rogers), but wasn't sure if I could get a local pre-paid SIM that had access to data (BIS, bbm, etc).

Has anyone had any experience with using their BlackBerry abroad (with data) without roaming on their carrier, but rather using an unlocked phone with a local SIM and still able to access the BIS?

    Thank you.

You would really have to see the specific carriers in Jamaica if they offer BIS with their pre-paid options. In most parts of the world that's usually not the case.
