For Verizon users, I was reading that you could call the Global Support number on the phone and they could walk you through a 10 minute walkthrough for a free unlock but I couldn't confirm that for ya.

Is there really any major advantage to doing this?

I remember them saying they would unlock it for "members in good standing." Other that for use abroad, what's the point?

Well, you can use it on another carrier within the US if it's unlocked.

Interesting, I appreciate the info. I'll wait a little while and then call the global #

Yeah, it's not like I can move it to a better carrier in my area.

For the original poster--the unlock code is based on your phone's IMEI. Even if I sent you the unlock code I just won, it wouldn't do you any good.

This is true, but you have to have at least 60 days of service and good payment history. Doesn't matter what phone you have had for the past 60 days

I had my phone for 6 days and they unlocked it when I told them I was going international and that I was going to be using local sim cards.

I've had Verizon for 4 years and haven't missed a payment. They unlocked ALL my Storms right when I got them. The Tour unlock was a gift from winning a contest here on CB.

    not true

I sent verizon an email requesting the unlock code, and a couple days later I received a reply with the code.
