people.. the unlocked code is $0.99
can i spell that for you all it's ninety nine cents..
i don't think the time you'll be spending calling the customer rep, arguing and still being refused in the end is worth $0.99? right?
unless you're trying to prove a point or get yourself involved in a class action lawsuit againts AT&T..
i don't know why you would even call AT&T for that

So, uh.... exactly how does a non-AT&T consumer get their hands on a obviously locked AT&T Torch? If you pay their no commit price you should get an unlocked phone, No?
they bought it at a 3rd party seller like Best Buy or Radioshack..
or someone with an AT&T line bought it for them

you paid for a NO COMMITMENT price... not an UNLOCKED PHONE PRICE..
so i don't understand why people think they are entitled to an unlocked phone..
you PAID retail price so that you won't have to be under a 2 year contract with AT&T.. that's it. you're not obligated to pay the $325.00 Early Termination Fee that i would be paying if i don't finish the 24 months with AT&T.

and did i mention the unlocked code is only $0.99 ( ninety nine cents)

I can confirm that the 9700 is on the "no unlock" list. My friend was travelling overseas and tried to get her phone unlocked. She has been a customer for 10 yrs. They informed her they will not unlock the 9700 or 9800 since they have more than a 10mo exclusive on them.

I had her call back and explain the 9700 isn't an exclusive and maybe they misheard her or they misread. Same response. She called back once more and was again told no.

I didn't know about the lawsuit settlement util now.

Probably because that's how it works in the rest of the world. I know americans are content getting screwed as consumers but he's right, if you pay full retail it should be unlocked. It's only a matter of time before another ruling comes down to mandate this. Carriers need to compete on service and price but they're terrified to do that knowing their service sucks. Instead they lock you in and jack up their ETF instead.

so i don't understand why people think they are entitled to an unlocked phone..

The 9700 IS NOT ont the so called "no unlock" list. Legally, it can't be. Also I had a 9700 before I got my Torch, and it's unlocked, via AT&T csr.

Send a quick email to the lawfirm that handled the class action. They'd love to know the 9700 is on this list.

Dude, you've said this at least three times. No need for a dollar sign for .99 cents.

Every eBay unlocking company says specifically in the ad that the code will be mailed via USPS. It's against eBay T&C's to do it any other way.

sorry for the redundancy, but some members don't read the first page of the thread especially if it gets too long..

anyway, for the codes on Ebay..
you can work with the seller to email you the codes..

i bought an Apple Care protection plan for my Macbook Pro retail price is $375.. Ebay price is around $180.. as sooon as my payment was posted.. the seller emailed me the activation code..

I see people paying stupid amounts of money for an unlock code......just don't understand why. I realize everyone has to eat, but damn, so do I!

Also had AT&T unlock my 9700 and they were quick to email me the info and how to do it. No issue at all.

i think for us ( who resides in the US) it's better to get the codes from AT&T..
but for our neighbors ( Canucks!) and the rest of the World who can't wait for their respective launch dates.. the unlock code is a must.
    That's how i see it.

If only this canuck had a passport, he'd be looking for a $99 cents unlock code...or is it a $0.99 cents unlock code

Ok, here is the deal. $99 cents, nor .99 cents is correct. It's either $0.99 or 99 cents. 0.99 cents is actually 1/100th less than a cent. Maybe you guys work for Verizon VerizonMath.com Where logic is shown the door.

go the ebay route..heck i paid full price for the torch, i'm a canadian, went to the states bought it for 550, came home, paid for an unlock code, done...simple. Why waste time with CSR rep...my 9700 with rogers, long time business customer, i wouldn't even dare to ask them for the unlock code...just use a 3rd party.
