Ok so my friend has an 8330 from Sprint and he is on Telus. We were trying to find a way to unlock it but we've had no luck. Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

The 8330 does not have a SIM card, so it cannot be unlocked. In order to use a CDMA device on another network, it must be flashed with the new carrier's firmware. However, most CDMA carriers will not allow other carrier's devices to be used on their network. Your friend will need to contact Telus and ask them if they will even accept Sprint devices. If not, he would be better off selling the Sprint 8330 and purchasing a Telus device.

Only GSM device can be unlocked. Meaning no sim card=not unlockable.

so the consensus is that this cannot be done without telus actually flashing the phone? But if telus allows the use of sprint phones on their network, it's possible?

That would be correct. Ask before spending the money.
