    Anybody have any suggested sites?

Yes, I am aware that Crackberry offers this service.

I just can't justify paying their asking price.

    Cheers.

Been searching around for better deals as well... But currently, it's looking like CB's our best bet. Even my carrier charges more for unlocking. Got my Q10 off Rogers and paid outright. They'll unlock it for $50 + taxes...

I hope to find a better deal!

If only it was maybe $20, it'd be easier to pull the trigger. I don't really need it yet so I'll wait it out for now...

    Cheers!

I might give this a shot..........

    UPDATE:
Did a quick search on the website's reputation here at CB and it's not good.

    ABORT!

I just used a great service for my Q10. Got my code in under 2 hours and it was only $25 for Q10 or Z10. I don't know how to share the contact deets though... any ideas?

Is there a difference between Carrier unlock vs third party unlock?

I think with a carrier unlocking a device, it would more than likely be free. But, there is word that it is now illegal (or something like that) for carriers to unlock. I don't know the full story...

Is there a difference between Carrier unlock vs third party unlock?

    Thanks

My carrier will do for $50 after 90 days and third party is cheaper a bit. But dont know if the unlock is the same or not. Carrier maintains warranty but the other route void the warranty

Here are a few answers to the above questions:
    - Carriers and third parties use the same system for unlocking BlackBerries (by entering an unlock code).
    - Using a third party unlock will often void the carrier's warranty. This is usually only 30 days in Canada.
    - However, using a third party unlock will not void the manufacturer's warranty. I.e. You still have the one year warranty with BlackBerry regardless of which unlocking service you use (for unlocking code methods).

Edit - I'm removing my links as per posting guidelines. Sorry bout that.
But to the question, yes, there are many services available for all models of phones with varying prices and turnarounds. A simple search will return many results.

I just unlocked my q10 last night from Crackberry. They page said the code would arrive in 12 hours but it arrived in 1.5 hours. Now it is not typical to receive the code that fast but it worked first time and I had no issues. I realize that $45 USD is a lot to unlock however it is reliable and to be honest this is a one time cost. $25 or $45 is a matter of $15 which I was able to justify to myself. I am in now way connected to this site but I just wanted to share that I am very happy with the service I got and the speed of it.
