    Hi there

i should have known better but i purchased a pre owned q5 but unfortunately it says MEP locked..i asume the previous owner tried to unlock it bur failed and now im lumbered with having it on a pay as you go sim!

ive tried calling blackberry to know avail and the sim provider can;t help either.

has anyone else had a similar problem?

is there a way to reset the mep lock through a hard reset or security wipe?

Have you tried contacting the crackberry unlocking store? They can unlock most BlackBerry 10 phones. I'm not sure what the situation is with the Q5.

I would probably try a full factory reset in link but then again the phone probably wouldn't connect to your computer but if it does try it .

I've not tried crackberry unlocks but it is quite steep.

Has anyone else tried a full wipe.

I'm quite disappointed with what's happened.

    Anymore tips?

It sounds like it's carrier locked, a MEP lock renders the phone pretty much useless. Buy a unlock code and you can use it with any network

Not as steep as a new phone ;-)

This is a crucial distinction, OP. Are you saying that you are out of tries left to unlock, or is the phone still allowing you to enter a code?

If it's the former, you're basically SOL and tied to the carrier the phone is branded to. If it's the latter, that's still relatively fixable with a relatively few coins (relative to the cost of a new phone, cost of staying on the locking carrier, etc.)

Basically it says it's locked with no way to input a code!

I'm wondering if it can still be unlocked someway?

There is a cable based unlocking service called DM3, but I really don't think that's available for BB10. I don't think it's available for even BB7 devices.

So unless you simply cannot use the phone on the network it's locked to, anyway you can get your money back?

OP: Do you know which carrier the phone is locked to? I would sell the phone as locked to carrier..... and get as much money back as you can, unless you can get a refund but it sounds like the person that sold it was less than forthcoming.
