But now I don't need it. How could I benefit from having an unlocked T-Mobile 9700? Or should I just gift it?

I thought unlock codes are device specific.

He is talking about the unlock code. Unlock codes are device specific... I think what he's moreless saying, is did you receive a credit to get a unlock code for a device? or did you receive an actual unlock code? If you received an unlock code, then you had to provide them your with IMEI, and that unlock code is specific for your device and your device only. An unlocked device is easier to sell when you're done with it. Other then that... you will gain absolutely nothing from having your phone unlocked and being a customer of the branded carrier on the device.

I won one as well, within an hour unlocked

    What issue are you having?

    they ask for 3 things,

    Phone Model:

    Provider phone is from:

15 Digit IMEI (Can be found in Options/Status):
I usually toss my pin in there as well.

When you sell your BB, you could ask for $100 plus more than a locked device.
Another benefit is when traveling out of the country, you'll be able to us a SIM from that country's carrier.

I won an unlock code too I don't need it since I already purchased an unlock code for my phone a month ago, but upon emailing CellUnlock they stated that I could use the unlock code anytime in the future! So I will use my unlock credit for my next phone
