some verizon phones can be unlocked to work on gsm networks like at&t, tmobile, etc.. but unfortunately it doesn't work the other way around

Correct, your only hope would be for Blackberry to release a CDMA version of the phone for use on Verizon's network. I highly doubt that will be happening at this point.

only BB verizon is coming out with soonISH is the Storm 3, and that's if you can call it that. More of a glorified storm 2.

Bought my Torch in the US, got it unlocked, and using it in Canada. I have a BB data plan so everything works, BUT when I try to stream videos/youtube, it won't let me cuz it thinking I'm roaming. I've allowed data usage while roaming, but it still won't work. Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks!

What error/message do you get when trying to use Youtube?

It sounds more of a app issue then the carrier. YouTube also consumes more data and while roaming that data usage is NOT cheap.

I can Highly recommand the service Cellunlock(dot)net is providing.

Online ordered an unlock code for a torch 9800
Branded with O2 / carrier unknown.

( 1st code cellunlock provided me didnt work )
So i tought "Well it was the 19 bugs worth to try"

So i wrote an email, they wrote back, and asked for the MEP ID of the 9800
( instructions how to get the MEP ID was included in the mail )

Some time later, my BB was unlocked !! (36hour later caused by the time-zone)

Very good service, and uncomplicated email "template" communication !!

Any free unlock codes out there?

Additionally, does unlocking your phone void the one year warranty?

Sorry, you would either have to enter a contest or get a free code from your carrier if they provide them.

And no, unlocking your phone doesn't void your warranty.

Let any of us now if you need anything else
