You can use it on other networks then.

Plus when you are travelling to a foreign country you can use a local SIM card instead of paying ridiculous roaming charges.

I got Verizon to help me unlock my Storm yesterday so I can put in a new SIM chip when I get to London next week. They were very helpful, no problems.

I asked if the phone was now permanently unlocked and they said "no", only for 10 months. I should have asked them, but does anyone know what happens in 10 months? Does the phone automatically relock itself so you have to go through the same process all over again?

You can use storm all over world with any GSM carrier when you get unlocked. We unlock all types of phones. VZW requires you to be account holder to get unlocked. We can get if you can't. Bell, Telus codes can only get every two weeks.

That's interesting. I never even thought to ask that when I got my unlock code, I just assumed one unlock and it was permanently unlocked. I guess we'll find out at the end of September and early October if it does re-lock itself. Everyone who bought the storm at the beginning and unlocked it will be having problems around then and I'm sure there'll be a lot of complaining here about it

That is not correct. The unlock is permanent with BB Storm.

Did you unlock the phone before leaving? Does your phone not work with the local SIM card? Did you switch your network on your phone from 1XEX to GSM? If your local SIM card is for a GSM network, you have to change that on your phone. Did you follow the instructions on your local SIM card to activate it?

If you did not unlock before leaving, you still can unlock if you have a pc available. go to the following link, purchase an unlock code for your Storm and make sure you choose Verizon, and they will email you unlock code with instructions. You will then be able to use local SIM card for calls and texts.

Then it's simple. If you have a pc available with an internet connection where you are, then go to that link I provided in my previous message, buy an unlock code for $20 and they will email you the code in a a few minutes. Just go to your email via the pc and follow the instructions they give you. make sure you have the verizon sim card in the phone, and not a local sim card when you unlock it. After you unlock it, you can put the local sim card in, switch to GSM and you are good to go.

I forgot to ask you, is it a verizon phone? What phone company did it come from? That link i provided has a list of phone companies that it can unlock for your Storm if it wasn't a verizon phone.

Even though you are in another country, does the phone currently have a Verizon plan? If so you can still call and it should be free. If not, then the best option is probably buying the code.

Be Careful. I'm not sure if anyone is willing to pay full retail price, but some agents will bill you full retail price for the phone if you cancel before a 60 day period. If you do not pay they send your information to a collections agency and mess with your credit. "SELECT RETAILERS", not all. If you are willing to pay 500 for a storm retail, more power to you.

FYI - I got my Storm unlocked today w/o any problems. However, the rep stated that unlocking my phone would void the manufacturer warranty the minute the unlocking was completed. Has anyone else gotten this?
