    You can't.

    The 8830WE has European GSM frequencies built into it. It does not have North American GSM frequencies for USA or Canada.

    Now, if you are looking at using a SIM card for use outside North America, you can call Sprint and have them unlock the SIM slot, or you can search for companies that will unlock the SIM slot for a fee.

    the 8830 sim portion is unlocked by default for Sprint versions. Verizon versions you need to contact verizon or request assistance with a third party unlocker

    and it only uses 900/1800mhz which is used outside North America.

    North America uses 850/1900mhz so they are not compatible. the GSM frequences were designed to be uses overseas. Hence why World Edition

    dang it. I was thinking about unlocking my 8830 verizon and taking it to ATT or maybe tmo. Oh well

    The 8830 is a great phone, its a shame they didn't give it the US frequencies.
