Then they gave you the incorrect code. You will need a BB Data Plan in order to have any native BB apps to work.

I don't want the data plan
I just want to use my bb as a cellphone

Unlocking and switching carrier typically does NOT have problems. You just need to follow the correct steps.

    I did
I check the steps on 3different sites
    no go
now my phone is stuck in the unlock menu
all I can do is enter a code or emerg call
    Any ideas?
Are the unlock codes more than 8 numbers?
I read it is 10 digits

Sometimes even more. Besure you got the code from a reliable site.

When I unlocked one of my phones, I just had to call my carrier for the code for the specific phone. You can call them, and ask them for the code.

You cannot call the carrier for an unlock code for a device from a DIFFERENT carrier.
