I was looking around to unlock my blackberry and I came by this link on Redflagdeals.com:

    cellphoneunlock.net/freeblackberryunlock.html?1232692914545

They say if you provide them your IMEI they'll unlock it for monday/tuesday.

I was just wondering if cellphoneunlock.net is a legit site, and what they could do with your IMEI?

I never heard of this company but the top of their site says $16.99 pay by paypal.

If you are looking for a paid for service do a forum search and find out who are the reputable vendors.

I gave them the imei to my 8100 for kicks and giggles. If it's legit great, if not no big deal.

Yea sure no problem. But honestly I doubt they will email me back the unlock code, either way I have nothing to lose.

I just followed you. No harm in trying? Worst case we get our phones unlocked! Its not like they can really do anything with out IMEIs anyways....Right? lol

No they can't do anything with IMEI numbers. Remember GSM carriers charge you according to your SIM card. So as long as you aren't throwing your IMSI numbers around you are ok.

if you are on rogers in Canada, there really is no point in unlocking your phone, unless you really do travel a lot (which in my case i don't) or you are planning to sell your phone on eBay. other than that, there aren't any other GSM carriers that offer data plans for the BOLD in Canada. (i don't think so at least =/)

but hey, its free so why not? haha

i was also considering this but i heard there is a possibility for them to cancel your cell contract or some absurd thing like that.

Just sent in the info for my old 8830 WE and we will see what happens. I dont use it right now but if I were to resell it or something this would increase the value. Nothing ventured nothing gained :-)

For me it isn't a big deal either way as the device is no longer being used. I was considering paying to get it unlocked and trying to sell it online to help pay for my current BB habits ;-)

I sent in my wife's and my IEMI on Saturday. Here's hoping for the best. We want to go to Europe later this year to visit family so it would come in handy.

Why don't you just call your carrier and tell them you need your phone unlocked?

I did that with AT&T. It was free and it took 2 minutes.

i just called rogers just to see if they would give me the unlock code, i went to their tech support department and the guy told me that they can't give me the unlock code because people who have unlocked their phones have had troubles with connecting to the data plan on their bb's..... is this true? or was he just full of bs?

He is full of it. I unlocked my Rogers Bold on Monday last week (cost me $12.00)
and don't have any problems with receiving emails, browsing net and using GPS.

3rd party. Paid for it through paypal. Emailed the IMEI # and within a few minutes i received code # and instruction how to unlock it.
