im sorry if this has been asked before, and i did do a small search. Might have missed it though since im sure this was asked.

Anyway, what are the benefits to unlocking the bold with an ATT plan, purchased phone from ATT?

I already have the data and unlimited text plans added to my contract. Does unlocking it make the data plan obsolete (meaning i could use the internet on the phone without the option in my contract)?

    any help would be appreciated

Unlocking means your phone isn't locked to AT&T service. You can use T-mobile or verizon or whatever else, etc etc. Also you can go abroad and use prepaid sim cards.

Nothing more and nothing less than what was said above. No new magical powers are unlocked.
