I am using a tmobile usa 8900 unlocked on AT&T. My EDGE is very speedy so I do not miss 3G. Anyone else in the same boat? Also, is the storm EDGE like this speed too or is it a slow EDGE performer?

I have the 8900 with Centennial Wireless but AT&T is buying them out plus when I roam I am on the AT&T towers. The browsing is great and fast. I have no complaints.

The Storm does not have the EDGE improvement that the 8900 does. 8900 has 8 EDGE channels to use instead of only 2.

This is the fastest I have ever had on a berry with the wifi on. I have wifi everywhere I go! I haven't even had edge come up yet! I love this thing!

Hmm. So it wouldn't be so beneficial to get an unlocked storm plus I'll be missing out on a keyboard. I have people at the AT&T store ask me about the phone since its not AT&T offered and I just say I got it from tmobile.

Nice. Has anyone ever thought about switching to a storm from the 8900? I'm thinking about it but as aristile said, the EDGE would be quite slow.

Kevin posted a link to a comparison between the Bold, Storm, and the 8900 on the CB home page - it's probably on the second or third page by now. Anyway, when it came to downloads the Bold was just a little faster than the 8900, but the 8900 was almost a minute faster than the Storm. That's enough for me.

When you say the 8900 was faster, was he using an unlocked one?

What would the phone being unlocked have anything to do with the speed?

Well because since I have AT&T, the fastest I can hit is EDGE whereas a Storm to Verizon can utilize the full network speed of Verizon. For me, it has to be EDGE vs EDGE on the same network.

The 8900 can't run on Verizon anyway, it is not CDMA.

That's not what I meant. I have AT&T so I would need a Verizon Storm unlocked to be running EDGE just like my 8900

That's why I was confused, when you said:

I sounded like you were talking about the 8900 being unlocked. In either case, if you run a Storm on EDGE and the 8900 on EDGE, the 8900 is going to smoke the Storm because it has 8 channels to connect to the EDGE network and the Storm only has two. On top of that, the 8900 has more available memory so it runs better.

I think so too. The iPhone is great but I keep the white one sitting in the drawer in case I want to watch a movie or play a nice game for once. I do not miss my Bold or the 3G. As aristile says, the 8900 uses an "enhanced edge" system so that explains some of it.

Check the ATT forum and also the How To Forum. another option is to call ATT and have them send you the service books, that should help.

    Afternoon everybody,

here is my question regarding the unlocked tMo 8900. I am on the att network and if i begin to use the 8900 will everything function the way its suppose to? Thing is i have a unlocked 8705g and when i put my att sim card i get edge and i receive all my emails but i dont have a browser. I called att and they told me they do not offer the service books for that model BB model. So again, if i put my sim card in the 8900 for tmobile will i be able to get my wap browser and regular browser?

This would really help me make a decision!!

    Thanks.

Do you have a Blackberry Data Plan with AT&T? also what do you see on the top right of the screen? does it say EDGE or edge?

If you do not want to bother with setting up your BIS service, you can always call customer service 611 and ask for the Data Support group. They can help you with the entire setup and send you all the service books required OTA.
