Verizon was kind enough to unlock my 8830 today so I can use it in Africa. We had to stick a SIM card in it to get the phone to unlock. The Verizon rep said any SIM card would work for the purpose of unlocking the phone. I used my buddy's T-Mobile SIM to unlock the phone. The phone did unlock with the code the Verizon rep gave me. I kept the T-Mobile SIM in the phone and tried to access GSM. It just kept saying "searching for GSM."

I heard that the 8830 world phone will use only the international 900MHz and 1800 MHz band and is not capable of accessing the 850 MHz and 1900 MHz GSM network used in North American... is this true?

I dont care if it works in the US, just as long as I know it will work overseas.....

    Thanks

It will work overseas if the carrier supports the frequencies.
