Also - you'd think blackberry would have a few themes avail for a new device - I mean AT LEAST a today and an L theme.

well, it should be possible. The main concern is the breakdown of the JAVA files used by blackberry to create their themes. The files contatain several large hash tables that are simply loaded into static files. I have not been able to find any information on the way the files are put together, how they are compiled, or what the original JAVA files look like. Still looking, though.
