This is a "feature" of the BlackBerry OS that helps business users be aware of every missed call event, by way of 2 forms of notification. Unfortunately, as of 4.7.0.40, there is no way of disabling this feature.
Yes I'd love to disable it but as per Dr.S I don't think this is possible unfortunately.

just wanted to pop in and say i totally agree that it's...well...annoying! (in case anyone from BB reads this). oh well.
Only nice thing is it does tell you who the voice mail was from, but yeah it is very annoying and redundant
Tell me about it.
So its an real text message or a message notification like the one you would get when you have a missed call? Thats weird I've never heard of that happening to anyone.
Then yours is cooler than mine! Mine just says "voicemail."

Check again. It says Voice Mail in the SMS list, but when you open the message it'll have a name at the top. I actually didn't even realize this until now and think it's a pretty cool feature.
Anyone know if these voice mail alerts count towards your TXT limit?
Ive always felt that same way its really annoying to me, but i understand how other people would like it they just need to give you the option to change it.
Ive always also thought they should have a voice mail icon that that would be pretty cool, but i guess holding down the q key is not that hard.
Mine also only says "Voice Mail" and when opened says "Voice Mail (myname (Mobile).
Hmm, I just noticed the strange use of parentheses for the 1st time.
Anyway, I'm on TELUS and I'm sure this is carrier-based.
@richro: what is your carrier? Do you subscribe to Visual Voicemail? If not, I suspect your carrier has it available while TELUS doesn't.

I have Verizon, and no I do not subscribe to VVM. It displays it exactly the way yours does (including the missing close parenthesis), except instead of "myname" it has the caller's name there.
Yeah, I thought it was a bit redundant too. But its not so bad, I always see the text before I notice I have a voicemail.

will this be fixed in OS 5.0 when is that coming out anyway?
Ah I see.
Still I have suspicion that this is happening since your carrier at least has VVM capabilities, despite you not subscribing for it.
Anyway, now that we've cleared all that up, I hope RIM does make this optional in the near future.

Nope, these are free. No cost to text limit whatsoever.
I'm running 5.0.0.191 and so far I haven't found a way to remove this feature. I also think it is annoying.
