Anyone know why this is? The GSM BOLD/8900 variant doesn't have it.
Different carries different look..8330s are perfect example.
9630 Black borders will hit the internet for sale couple months after release.
Im going to soak mine in super clean for 12hrs and black will be had.

I believe YaBoiD was referring to the 5 or so pixels worth of border inside the display that is black.
I didn't notice this until I looked at the photo, and while I doubt anyone here is going to know why RIM designers had to make this sacrifice I am left curious too. It only takes 1/4 -1/2" from the total diag size but it does feel like wasted space. I'm sure there is some reasonable explanation behind this - maybe the LCD screen they used is smaller than the design allotted but was cheaper in cost.

Actually, i just took a closer look at my 8900 and it DOES have the border, however slightly smaller.

oh lol my bust.
That is a very odd surrounding border hmm maybe theme is the culprit.
Well im off track again lol
Sprints showing picture frame as well.
I wonder what the reasoning is though? wonder why they can't use the entire screen? I mean even on the storm they have a bourder... I'd like to know what the reasoning is behind that, has to be one?
Yea, it would have been much better if they could have made the screen fit all the way to the edges, but my hunch is that they did that so they could just use the same 2.4" screens that they're already using in the smaller Curve 8900.

Slingbox, it kinda reminds me of when the 700wx was released at screen size 240*240 & the 700p version was 320*320. Same physical size though....Not a dealbreaker but I'm curious nonetheless.
My take: How else are you going to use the already-existing Javelin (Curve 8900) screen AND make the phone itself slightly bigger? Easy, put void space around the screen. Saves RIM money vs developing an all-new screen.

Exactly. Not to mention the fact that the smaller screen with the same number of pixels equals a sharper image. I am all for it.
