Fixed that for you.
Seriously, I think this is intentional. They might back peddle when they realize it might cost them more customers than they gain.
Verizon has to realize that they aren't the best US carrier. They only suck the least. Once that changes, they will realize that they are only the lesser evil and all those "network people" on their commercials will just start looking like dorks.07-01-09 04:33 PMLike 0 - That makes it even more annoying that they would assume that their customers will remain loyal to them while they choose not to be loyal to their customers.07-01-09 04:53 PMLike 0

It's like marriage. It keeps us from having someone else take advantage without penalty.07-01-09 05:00 PMLike 0 - Spoke with VZW customer service representative "Garth" this afternoon. His exact words were "Upgrades won't be available until July 12th or 13th. If I have an available line to add a phone and or am a new customer then he would be happy to help me out with a pre-order."
The fact that I am what VZW deemed a VIP customer didn't matter, nor does the fact that I happily have paid my $3600 to them yearly.
So after that conversation I guess I have 3 different options, 1 - wait till July 12th and go to local VZW store and hope that they have enough stock to supply the demand, 2 - cancel my account which 2YR contract had expired last fall (loyal VZW customer for over 15 years) and then sign up again for all new lines, pay activation fees, have hassle of having a new cell #, 3 - wait till July 12 or 13 to be able to upgrade the one line that I want and hope that stock will be there.
Confused as to exactly what to think......
I'll be curious to see how Sprint handles pre-orders for this phone. Who wants to make a friendly wager that they won't be making the same mistake?07-01-09 05:11 PMLike 0 - So after that conversation I guess I have 3 different options, 1 - wait till July 12th and go to local VZW store and hope that they have enough stock to supply the demand, 2 - cancel my account which 2YR contract had expired last fall (loyal VZW customer for over 15 years) and then sign up again for all new lines, pay activation fees, have hassle of having a new cell #, 3 - wait till July 12 or 13 to be able to upgrade the one line that I want and hope that stock will be there.

Then you don't have to worry about your number changing when you want to add a line or try to get around annoying upgrade regulations07-01-09 05:16 PMLike 0 - Well i'm not sure how they did phone orders but I know they didn't do instore ones. It was first come first serve with the PRE so i really doubt they'll do that with the Tour07-01-09 05:29 PMLike 0
- I called today and was not assured I could pre-order even though I have had two lines with Verizon for 10+ years. So I asked the CS rep, "So you mean to tell me that being a loyal customer I cannot pre-order the phone, that sounds like a good way to keep loyal customers happy" He responded " I agree with you and is not too smart a move." So I kindly mentioned to him that Sprint is releasing the same day and my numbers can be ported without any penalties and I can have pretty much the same plan cheaper there and told him he should mention this to his supervisors and that I am not alone on this bonehead move to restrict current customers to a pre-order. He again agreed and asked if I would like to speak to a manager to which I responded, "No thanks, you answered my questions fine and I see what Verizon thinks of their long standing customers, Have a Nice Day."
Since moving to Charlotte, NC from NY I find Sprint gets better coverage here so I have been debating whether or not I should jump ship and this may have sealed the deal for me. Yes, I can get the phone from either carrier the same day and don't mind waiting if I need to but it's just principle at this point. Kind of ridiculous in my mind. I know with my business I give my older loyal customers preferential treatment when it comes to scheduling etc. I may not let my newer clients know this but it is just the way it works. Poor decision on some execs part with the restrictions.Last edited by neoflex; 07-01-09 at 06:59 PM.
07-01-09 06:27 PMLike 0 - Decided to try chat to see if anything has changed since this morning. Got to love how this conversation went and yet again shows me that Verizon is not concerned with keeping their loyal customers.
Chat InformationPlease wait for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience!
Chat InformationA Verizon Wireless online pre-sales specialist has joined the chat. You are now chatting with Jeremy
Jeremy: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
You: What is the deal with Verizon cutting off long time loyal customers to a pre-order for the new BB Tour?
Jeremy: The site went down last night.
You: Since the Tour was posted to your website it is showing you can pre-order it as long as you are a new customer hanging us long time loyal customers out to dry. Is VErizon trying to run off their current customer base?
Jeremy: The site is just having a tech problem processing the pre-order.
You: But it says in Bold Red Type "Pre-Orders not available for Upgrade orders at this time" Which tells me that me being a Verizon customer for 10 or so years can not pre-order this phone. So I doubt this has anything to do with not being able to process orders.
Jeremy: It isn't available at this time because the site crashed last night.
You: The site said the same thing yesterday morning. Would Verizon rather see me port my number which can be done without penalities at this time to another carrier like Sprint who offers a very similar plan cheaper and will also be releasing this phone the same day as Verizon?
Jeremy: Thank you for visiting Verizon Wireless, I look forward to speaking with you again. Have a great evening!Last edited by neoflex; 07-01-09 at 07:01 PM.

- Why are you guys flipping out about a pre-order? Seriously, you have to chill out. You arent gonna die if you dont get it before its released, its only a phone! I want one too, but i mean its a pre-order, not like youre gonna get it when you order it anyways, you still will get it the 12th just like everyone else, if you go in to the store. If not, you get it the next day or so....i mean seriously, big deal. Sometimes people on here ask to much, you all are like phone divas.....07-01-09 11:50 PMLike 0

- the interaction with the CSR over chat will likely get that rep in hot water if that wasn't edited.. Those logs are checked for quality often and disconnecting a customer with questions unanswered is a failure.. I have no clue whats the deal with the site or pre-orders but I know that verizon wants new customers to get theirs first so maybe upgrades will become avail in the next couple days.. been this long people.. hold the fort..07-02-09 12:02 AMLike 0

- who cares if you can't pre-order.. what are the chances that verizon will not have enough phones in stock? You think every single person will be going from what they currently have to the Tour? I think some people on here just want every new thing possible. And I honestly think that it is childish. I work for a fairly large company that deals with customers calling in and wanting the new offer running around and I just simply tell them that it is not available to current subscribers and if they wish to cancel then they can.07-02-09 01:24 AMLike 0
