My Blackberry Tour says 1XEV, but I'm in a 3G area. Is 1XEV the same thing as 3G?

Yes. 1x EV-DO EV-DO is their 3g network. And REV A is even faster. The tour has REV A also. When it says 1XEV then you are also on REV A. Assuming it's in your area.

Verizon's entire EV footprint is actually Rev A.

EV-DO is the technology that Verizon and Sprint use.. but I've heard that from now on, new phones from Verizon are going to show 3G instead of EVDO

1XEV is 3G. once the 5.0 os comes out for the tour, it will say 3G instead of 1XEV

Both of these are correct/incorrect. .230 does display "3G" and the BlackBerry logo instead of the "1XEV" symbol. The Storm version of .230 did too. But they go back to the "1XEV" again after that.

Not all 5.0 OS's are going to use the "3G" symbol. Before, "3G" was reserved for GSM based 3G service and CDMA has traditionally used different variations of the 1XEV or 1xev do designate signal speed. This may be totally incorrect, but that is how it was explained to me.

ive have heard from at least 10 verizon workers that 5.0 will use the 3g logo. and even though it is leaked, the leaked 5.0 uses it too

I have Verizon. When I used my Tour overseas in Europe it said 3G instead instead of 1XEV. Frankly, I think the 3G symbol in the corner of my phone looks more attractive then the dumb 1XEV symbol

Yes, I agree...I like the 3G logo a lot better than the 1XEV. I installed the leaked 5.0 on my Tour today. So far I like what I have seen. All of my apps work just fine too. Only thing that is bothering me, and it's just me being overally picky is on my homescreen, since I've updated to the 5.0 OS, the "Date" font on the homescreen is extremely tiny. Same with the 3G logo that does appear in the upper right corner instead of the 1XEV by the way. The font is very hard to read "Tuesday November 17, 2009." Anyone know how to make the date/day font a little bigger? Didn't have this problem until I loaded the OS 5.0 on my tour.

Droid shows 3g also. Most of the new devices will show 3g here pretty soon. That EVDO was too confusing for the stupid general population lol

I loaded the official 5.0.0.328 on my Storm, and it says 1XEV, not 3G. Interesting.

Not quite. Some of the Alltel acquired/assimilated areas are still Rev 0 - and there are some places that are still 1X only.
