Both of these are correct/incorrect. .230 does display "3G" and the BlackBerry logo instead of the "1XEV" symbol. The Storm version of .230 did too. But they go back to the "1XEV" again after that.
Not all 5.0 OS's are going to use the "3G" symbol. Before, "3G" was reserved for GSM based 3G service and CDMA has traditionally used different variations of the 1XEV or 1xev do designate signal speed. This may be totally incorrect, but that is how it was explained to me.
