I have read that some members are wondering how to make the letters while typing a message, a different character.

Well here is your solution. While in your Blackberry messanger oroither typing field....hold the letter you wish to change WHILE at the same time scrolling your trackball. Most of the letters will carry multiple letter characters and some will include different symbols.

For example...the letter T carries the TM (trademark) symbol...or the letter R carries the Registered symbol (the little R in the circle)

Give it a try!!! Hope this helps those who wanted to know!!

    Ciao for now!

Yeah, I found that out a couple weeks ago while trying to type the word 'resume' ("") in SMS. The limitations of SMS is frustrating at times.

I'm still looking for the superscript "o" for the degree symbol. Anyone have any idea?

I wonder if you could send yourself something with the degree symbol and then cut/paste it where you need it or maybe even into an autotext entry.

On a computer I found you type Alt 0176

Yup, I managed to get the degree symbol into autotext but it seems to require one extra character - a SPACE. I would not select just the one symbol.

I used "deg" and replaced it with SPACE then you can probably go back to erase the SPACE. I did it by COPYING a SPACE and the degree symbol and then pasting that result into the Autotext entry for "deg"

Thanks for the symbol to copy F2!!!

Okay here's a corrected AutoText entry to add:
    %b
    Copy the above 3 characters.

Create new AutoText with deg = %b.

To use, you'll need a space before deg. For example, type 360 + SPACE + deg + SPACE/ENTER and it will auto-delete the space so you end up with:
    360

I did exactly as posted. When I hit the SPACE key, the symbol acts as it should but my cursor moves one line below, as if I hit the ENTER key. Any way of keeping the cursor in line?

I don't think you need to hit ENTER.

    type

    360 deg SPACEBAR

(and Elite1 - thanks for fixing it)

I guess one could carry this further with other symbols not contained in the normal BB complement.

Thanks F2! I figured out what the problem was. I keyed ENTER when I created the autotext. It's all good now. I also created two for ellipses - one for after a word and one for before a word.

Hi Reg, I was just about to respond to your 1st post but saw you fixed it.
I guess great minds think alike: I had inadvertently added ENTER the 1st time I created this AutoText too!

    I created one for 's too: s = %b's
    So you can type
    It s
    And it becomes
    It's

Hey my pleasure! I'm still excited just to finally have that pesky degree symbol.

I can't think of any other really notable symbols missing from the SYM menu and/or the trackball scroll choices.
